I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
I received my CGA designation in February 2012 after going through the education program for 4 years while working full-time. I received my Bachelor of Management degree in Accounting through the University of Lethbridge in 2008. I received my Accounting Coop Diploma through Grant MacEwan College (now Grant MacEwan University) in 2002.
I worked at an individually owned accounting firm for 8 months. The firm did manual accounting; we did not use any accounting software for bookkeeping. We used paper accounting ledgers to track transactions and Microsoft Excel to produce financial statements. During tax season we used Cantax for tax returns.
My second position was at a Chartered Accountant firm. This accounting firm has now been merged with Grant Thorton LLP. I was employed for over 2 years in which I provided record keeping for clients, processed personal and corporate tax returns, and attended client offices to provide bookkeeping. While attending a client appreciation function I ran into a prior client who requested I assist him with his bookkeeping and year end. I was the go to person for clients when it came to how to use Simply Accounting (now Sage). I also used QuickBooks for other small business clients. I started my education with the University of Lethbridge to get my Bachelor of Management degree in Accounting.
As well as having my own firm, I sub-contracted at a Public Accounting Firm for over a year to get more experience from a different firm’s perspective.
I have worked in public practice, industry, not for profit and government related. The positions I held were Accountant, Junior Accountant, Accounting Assistant (full cycle accounting), Financial Analyst for the Prairies, Acting Area Manager of Finance and Administration for the Prairies, Business Analyst for the Employee & Corporate Services division, and Senior Accountant.
I provided bookkeeping services part-time while working full-time. I enjoy it so much I decided to create a public accounting firm.
I am a Certified QuickBooks Desktop and Online ProAdvisor Member which allows me to receive more detailed training with both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. This results in better support to my clients and to provide them with training. I am also offering my current and future clients both trial versions of and discounts to buying the different QuickBooks Desktop products as well as WholeSale Billing Discount for QuickBooks Online.
